Fiat 500
Citroen 2CV
Nissan Figaro
Subaru Sambar

Model: Austin (Leyland) Mini 1000

  • Year: 1980
  • Seats: 4 (inc. driver)

  • Transmission : 4 speed automatic
  • Max speed: 70mph downhill !
  • Convertible: Full length electric opening fabric sunroof
  • Music: Yes
  • Other equipment: Not a lot
  • Need to know: Automatic gearbok makes it so simple to drive. Like a go-kart (but more fun)
  • Don’t need to know: Sir Alec Issigonis didn't like windows that wind up and down

Fiat500smallModel: Fiat 500 F

  • Year: 1971
  • Seats: 4 (inc. driver) for people who get on well with each other.
  • Luggage • A couple of bags of shopping at a push • Rear seats can be used for storage when there are only two passengers • Small boot rack can also be fitted for hamper etc.

  • Transmission : 4 speed manual
  • Max speed: Will sustain about 50 to 60mph

  • Music: No
  • Other equipment: Erm, it’s got a horn.
  • Need to know: This Fiat has been fitted with a larger engine (650cc) than the original and a synchromesh gearbox. This makes it a lots easier to drive (no double de-clutching !) and more suited to modern traffic than the original 500cc.
  • Don’t need to know: Fiat made generous offers of the original ‘Italian Job’ movie to tempt them to use Fiats instead of the Minis

2cvsmallModel: Citroen 2CV6 Special Edition

  • Other equipment: Not much
  • Need to know: Has an unusual 'umbrella stick' gear change which you'll get used to after a few miles.
  • Don’t need to know: Pierre-Jules Boulanger, chief of the Citroën Engineering and Design department, had the design of the original 2CV changed so that he could drive it whilst wearing a hat.

FigarosmallModel: Nissan Figaro

  • Year: 1991
  • Seats: 2 plus 2 rear seats for small people
  • Luggage • A couple of bags of shopping at a push • Rear seats can be used for storage when there are only two passengers • Boot rack can also be fitted for hamper, suitcase etc.

  • Transmission : 3 speed automatic
  • Max speed: Comfortably sustains motorway speeds
  • Convertible: Full manual
  • Music: Yes
  • Other equipment: Power steering, air conditioning
  • Need to know: Figaro’s were not sold new by Nissan in the UK so they are all imported from Japan. This annoyingly means the indicator switch is on the opposite side that you’re probably used to.
  • Don’t need to know: Figaro’s have been popular with celebrities. Dermot O’Leary was reported to have bought one as a surprise birthday gift for his partner Dee.
